Maria Montessori

Maria Montessori, founder of Montessori pedagogy, began by designing specific materials to help children learn through movement and achieved remarkable results. She subsequently created the first “Children’s House.” She taught them to take care of themselves and their environment, then supported them in their learning using the materials she and other educators had designed. Once again, the results were very significant: all these children learned to read and count without any difficulty and at preschool age. The role of the educator is therefore to observe the child’s development in order to support them in their learning when they need it. She then devoted her life to observing children’s behavior and development. She constantly improved her materials in order to closely monitor the children’s needs according to their evolution. She was convinced that universal peace would be possible by educating children in respect, tolerance, and above all, respect for the environment. This pedagogy is now present on all continents, transcending cultures, religions, linguistic traditions and political systems.
